Vodka Company Laid Off 40% Of Labor And Dropped The "e" In "Absolut Vodka"

 September 07, 1999

News in a flash—More than a century ago, the Absolut Vodka Company decided to lay off 40% of work force after their product's demand had dramatically dropped due to a devastating economic recession. The company was forced to let go dozens of workers and desperately resorted to extreme measures to the extent of excommunicating the letter "e" in their brand name—a bold move to make according to grammaticians! The management realized that their product did not have dire use of the extra letter because it would still sound the same without it. After the extreme cuts the company had to go through, the sacrifices paid off as the one-letter lighter "Absolut Vodka," picked up in sales, gradually increased demand, and eventually managed to keep its head afloat with a smaller force. After over a century, Absolut can now afford as many e's as they could ever want, but chose to keep the current branding as a symbol of the company's perseverance.
