Facebook Looks To Resolve Loss of "Cool" Young Users

 February 19, 2018

The biggest social networking site in the world is rapidly losing its young and cool core. Facebook has reportedly lost 2.5 million users under the age of 25 last year, and a huge chunk of the number is coming from 12-17 year olds. Young users are drawn out of Facebook with more and more older users signing up and increasing their activities, according to eMarket research. "A lot of us are leaving Facebook because so many parents and grandparents are making it uncool," one of the 14-year old respondents said. "They can now stalk us, it's annoying and embarrassing," the research further revealed. The young crowd are shifting their primary social media lives to Snapchat, a platform which their parents and grandparents are likely to keep away from. The steady and fast decline of young users is making CEO and Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg nervous. "Facebook is trying its best to counter the loss," said Zuckerberg. "Though it's undeniably an enigma how we would do it. We can't purposely drive the older folks away so we can lure the young ones in--that would be unethical. It's indeed a tricky situation," he said. "If we could only ask these older users to cooperate, say act to be someone else, I know we can surely fix this. I want to have a big meeting with these old people and ask them to pretend to be 12-year old girls every time they go online with facebook. The kids would likely trust them online and make friends with them. They might even be willing to meet up for ice cream or something. This would be a win-win situation for both of us," a much more optimistic Zuckerberg said. After he transpired the concept, Zuckerberg has initially made the proposal internally by posting the idea to facebook's Executive Message Board. It has reportedly showed a lot of promise after the post picked up 16 Likes and 3 hearts in the first 24 hours. One employee however, responded with a laughing-his-ass-out emoji and is reportedly facing disciplinary actions with HR, sources said.
