Indian Cinema Authorities Demands More Dancing (And Singing) In Movies

 August 24, 1988

News in a flash—The Indian Cinema Censorship and Regulatory Board, imposed a requirement for every movie made in Bollywood and in the entire country to dedicate at least 10 minutes of in-movie quirky dancing and singing. The regulatory board's order came with heavy pressure from the public, after a 1987 radical, low-budget film was made from start to finish without any dancing or singing, drawing the ire of the nation's loyal audiences. Any film-maker who tries to cut budget by omitting the much beloved and necessary performances will be duly dealt with to the fullest extent of the law, the board stated.
