William Serenas Forfeited US Open Championship Match After Smashing All Of His 10 Rackets

 September 09, 2017

News in a flash—U.S. Open Finalist and bet favorite, William Serenas, lost the championship match against Japan's Tokyo Osaka, when he forfeited the match after he smashed his 10th racket into pieces. Serenas got incredibly upset when the game's umpire, Jimmie Rodriguez, accused him of cheating in a poker game that they played 5 months ago. Riled up and deeply insulted, Serenas blasted the umpire with a lengthy tirade, repeatedly informing him that he has never cheated in his life and demanded a public apology. He smashed 10 rackets on the court to demonstrate his toughness and continued to confront the umpire. With no more rackets to play with, Serenas forfeited the championship match to Osaka who still had all of his 8 rackets in perfect condition. Osaka was then declared the winner, 8 rackets to none, becoming only the second Asian to win the tournament.
